Enid Blyton

Enid Blyton (1897-1968)

Enid Mary Blyton was an immensely popular British writer. Born on 11 August, 1897, Enid is one of the most successful and prolific writers of 20th century whose writing career spans over 45 years. As a young girl, she was a very talented pianist and an excellent student who became the head girl of her school. She took music lessons to please her father but became a teacher when she grew up.

She found that there were few books that children could read and enjoy. Hence she started writing stories to provide children with suitable reading material and encouraged them to read. She also wrote stories for a magazine in a series called "Sunny Stories." Young children loved her stories and she quickly became very popular. She left her job as a teacher after five years and became a full time writer.

Enid Blyton books are a treasure trove of endearing characters that have continued to enthrall readers since their creation. Naughty schoolchildren, brave adventurers, good fairies, bad goblins, kind brownies, wicked witches, clever wizards, sinister thieves, absent minded scientists, adorable pets and many more  unforgettable characters have been created by Enid Blyton.

Enid Blyton's books mostly deal with children who have a keen sense of adventure and love to explore the world around them. Her books also told of tales of mystery, adventure, fantasy, magic and fairylands. The concept of good and bad is also ever present in her stories whether through children, animals, toys or magical creatures.
